The View Panel provides a few orientation tools in addition to the mouse based tools you have in the 3D viewer. Just to review, in the 3D viewer window you have these controls.
Drag the left mouse button to spin.
Drag the middle mouse button to pan.
Drag the right mouse button to zoom.
View Panel
The View Panel contains the following tools:
Use the Home tool to return the orientation of your model to the default, trimetric view.
Use the View tool to display a trimetric or isometric view of your model.
Use the Navigator to display the zoom-bar , spin and pan buttons . Using these buttons you can spin , pan and zoom the object.
Use the Rescale tool to return your model to the default size.
Orient modes
When you click the Navigator button, the Spin, Pan, and Zoom tools become visible until you click the Navigator button again to make them invisible.
